Ajax trainer Ten Hag after new loss against Liverpool: 'Again unnecessary'

The 1-0 loss of Ajax at Anfield was twisted much like the previous home defeat against Liverpool. Ajax got chances, didn't cash them out and then got a goal around the ears after an error. "Another unnecessary loss", Erik ten Hag.

According to the trainer, Ajax still has to make one more step to win this kind of duels in the Champions League. "I've seen two teams keeping each other in balance. It's decided on details."

Perr Schuurs knows what's missing: finishing the odds. "They'll finish them off. That's the difference. We've created enough to make a goal. We're doing ourselves a disservice by not going away with the win or a point."

The defender played a great game, he found himself. "Especially in the first half. But just before halftime I picked up yellow and then you have to play a bit more wait and see. But in general I'm satisfied with my game."

After the defeat and the 1-1 of rival Atalanta Bergamo against FC Midtjylland, the task for Ajax is clear: only if the Italians win next week will the Amsterdammers continue in the Champions League.

"I'm first occupied with the match against FC Twente, only after that with Atalanta", says Ten Hag. "But we know what we have to do. Winning is the only thing that counts."

"I made a mistake," Andre Onana admitted wholeheartedly. "Because of me, we didn't win or tie here. I take all the blame for that. It's really just me."
