No fairy tale for Marine against Spurs, but stunt fourth division against Leeds

The most beautiful poster in the third round of the FA Cup was undoubtedly Marine-Tottenham Hotspur. The club from Crosby, a small town on the coast in the northwest of England, took on the number four of the Premier League.

Marine competes in the Northern Premier League, the eighth English level. Never before in the 150-year history of the FA Cup has there been such a big gap between the leagues of both teams.

After the draw for the third round, the ecstasy at Marine was great, but that the game had to be played in an empty stadium was a big disappointment. The club would have been able to raise more than 100,000 euros in sponsorship income without coronary measures.

On that basis, Marine launched a virtual ticket sale to raise some 30,000 euros, a quarter of the club's annual salary budget.

That's sums they don't lie awake about at the London club. The players of Spurs are used to comfort and luxury in their own ultramodern stadium, which cost more than 1 billion euros.

For this competition, the Spurs had to change into a room with a bar, which is normally rented out for receptions.

Trainer José Mourinho kept Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Gareth Bale on the bench. Steven Bergwijn was not part of the selection that had travelled to Crosby

Also without the star players the team of Mourinho was as expected far too strong for Marine and was waiting for a lead for Spurs.

But it was almost Navy that made the opening goal. A great distance shot by Neil Kengni landed on the bar, after which the frightened Spurs goalkeeper Joe Hart tapped the ball over the goal for a corner.

Not long after that, the Spurs still got the lead. After a one-two with Dele Alli, Carlos Vinicius was able to walk into the ball.

Crawley Town creates a stunt against Leeds

though Marine's match did not produce a fairytale, the third round did produce a stunt. Fourth Division Crawley Town beat Leeds United (12th in the Premier League) with resounding numbers: 3-0.

Halfway through the game there was still 0-0 on the scoreboard, but Crawley came out of the dressing room much better and opened the score after five minutes. Less than three minutes later Leeds made it 2-0.

Jordan Tunnicliffe threw the match in the lock twenty minutes before time. With that, the fourth division qualifies for the fourth round of the English Cup.

Chelsea didn't choke on opponent Morecambe, also a fourth division. At home Hakim Ziyech's team won 4-0. Goals were scored by Mason Mount, TimoWerner, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Kai Havertz.
